Jackrabbits
The boys really did it today as they put their mama in a rage,
When out the door they went like two jackrabbits out of a cage.
They must have ran so fast they outran the speed of sound,
Because no matter how loud mama screamed, in the boys' eardrums the sound could not be found.
It’s a good thing they were chasing after dad and he wasn't too far away,
Because mama couldn't have caught them on any given day.
Even though they were punished, they will probably do it some more,
When temptation becomes too great, it'll be jackrabbits out the door.

Tornadoes In Church
Taking two active little ones and praying they'll be quiet and still,
Is asking a lot of God, it's a king-sized request to fill.
Yes, we ask a lot of my buddies and really they did very well,
We just didn't think when Taylor was baptized, Zack would get excited and yell.
Ryen gave us a chuckle when the choir he decided to lead,
I'll tell Brother Jim he's available when help he does need.
It was quite an experience and just between me and you,
This was one time I wanted to hurry Brother Danny through.

Backyard Adventure
Boys and shovels digging for gold,
What wonderful fun each shovel-full holds.
With hopes and dreams and memories to make,
They choose the spot their treasure to take.
With excitement running at fever pitch,
The boys made plans of being rich.
With shovels churning and dirt flying in the air,
They have no worries, scarcely a care.
Though gold or jewels are not to be found,
You can tell they're happy just from the sound.
Dirty and happy and tired just a bit,
They hear someone say it’s time to quit.
From the magical hole they tear themselves away,
Making new plans for the very next day.

Late Night Play
My two youngest buddies were playing hard and fast,
We wondered just how long their batteries were going to last.
The hour was getting late; their bedtime had come and gone,
Yet, my buddies Zack and Ryen, were still going strong.
Nanny was really tired so she laid her head down to rest,
My two little buddies had given her quite a test.
The sandman had finally caught up and to Nanny Ryen said,
"Nanny, would you sit up so in your lap I can lay my head?"
Thirty seconds later Ryen was out like a light,
Everyone agreed it was time to call it a night.

Backyard Smiles
My backyard was smiling again because the little ones came to play,
The happy sounds of children chases the loneliness away.
From the swing set to the trampoline to digging in the dirt,
The backyard was so happy you could see where it hugged them on their shirt.
I know me and Nanny were thrilled to have them here,
It filled our hearts with joy just to have the little ones near.
We hope they return really soon to keep the twinkle in our eyes,
Besides, it makes us unhappy to see the backyard as it cries.

The Stuff Hunt
My two youngest buddies, for a while they came to stay,
They said, "We're going to look for some stuff, we need stuff so we can play."
We went to the shop where some stuff would probably be,
They gathered two armfuls, it was the first stuff hunt for me.
They had plywood and cardboard and dowel rods times four,
They headed back again because they said, "We need some more!"
They said, "We need hammers and nails and I think some glue."
I had to tell them, "I think what you have will have to do."
They built a rocket ship and a lab and a house to crawl inside,
Their stuff hunt was successful, we were all satisfied.

Paper Trails and Stories Galore
My two youngest buddies' individualities are starting to show,
Zack likes paper and scissors while Ryen's speech and imagination is beginning to grow.
A paper trail shows us exactly where Zack has been,
We find paper scraps around a trash can, but very few within.
I guess it counts for something that they're mostly in one spot,
He was having quite a bit of fun, something he doesn't do a lot.
On the other hand, Ryen was loud with stories flying here and there,
Even though none of it we could understand, we were glad he wanted to share.

Magic Words
My two youngest buddies came to visit and something had them so wired,
They talked so long and fast that both my ears were tired.
What all my buddies talked about, I haven't the slightest clue,
They're words were coming so fast, they're meaning couldn't make it through.
I had heard enough words to fill a novel with ease,
All in just two hours, I said, "Lord, help me please!!"
I nodded my head and said, "OK", and pretended I understood,
I really did my best, the best I possibly could.
My brain was overheating, I'm sure it was about to fry,
When I heard the magic words, "Hurry and tell Pa-Pa good-bye."

Mud Trails To Destruction
That youngest buddy of mine is quite a character no doubt,
His stories have no end, constant food he can not do without.
When it rains, he's a walking mud hole, every step he leaves a pile,
Especially when he comes inside, that's when a frown replaces my smile.
He's a happy stick of dynamite looking for something to destroy,
Cinder blocks have no chance, as this is one rough little boy.
He keeps us on our toes as we jump with each crash or thud,
We run to the scene of the crime to see if there's any blood.
As he gets a little older, I hope he calms down a bit,
For each time he comes to visit, it looks like a small tornado has hit.

Holding Down The Couch
That youngest buddy of mine, a character he can be,
Without even knowing it, he's got a joke on me.
It always brings a laugh as he says it in his little guy way,
I guess it'll always be with me until my very last day.
It's happened several times as I'm taking a little rest,
My little buddy comes by and gives it his very best.
Someone will ask for Pa-pa and he makes it sound like I'm a slouch,
As he says matter of factly,
"Pa-pa's holding down the couch!"
